Tom Silliman’s Featured Presentation at NAB 2018

President and CEO of ERI, Tom Silliman, presented ‘Signs of End of Life: FM Antennas and Transmission Line Systems’ at the 2018 Public Radio Engineering Conference. His paper and presentation explored the indications and symptoms of FM antenna and transmission line systems that require replacement as they are at or near end of life. The paper included a discussion of symptoms of system impairment, recommended inspection procedures and methods, system test and measurement procedures and interpreting their results, and environmental and structural support circumstances that impact antenna and transmission line system life. ERI Introduces Compact Liquid Cooled RF Loads

Chandler, Indiana USA – April 3, 2018 – Electronics Research is launching a new series of liquid cooled RF loads at NABSHOW2018. This new family of liquid cooled UHF coaxial loads offer a proven design for handling high RF power at low cost. Models are available with 3-1/8-inch, 4-1/16-inch, and 6-1/8-inch swivel flange female inputs. The loads employ a solution of antifreeze and water as both coolant and resistive material. The power dissipated by the load heats the solution and is removed by the constant flow. These new RF loads are less than 45-inches in length to save space and are constructed from Aluminum and Stainless Steel and weigh less than 22 pounds. The Models CL311, 3-1/8-inch; CL411, 4-1/16-inch; and CL611, 6-1/8-inch are the basic load designs. The Models CL312, CL412, and CL612 include an integrated, externally terminated and adjustable directional coupler at the load input.

These new products are currently in production and availability for new orders is generally less than 30 days.

Chandler, Indiana USA – April 3, 2018 – Electronics Research, Inc. (ERI) will show a new series of adjustable directional couplers that feature external terminations. This family of coaxial directional couplers that are adjustable and externally terminated. The orientation of any sampling port can easily be changed from forward to reflected by reposition the external termination load on the coupler.

These couplers are available in 3-1/8-inch, 4-1/16-inch, and 6-1/8-inch, 50-ohm, models, with flanged input and output connections. The 3-1/8-inch and 4-1/16-inch models are also available with an unflanged male connection at the coupler input. Models available with one to five adjustable couplers with Type N sample ports. One external termination load is supplied for each sample port. Directivity and coupling level are dependent on operating frequency. The design of this new product family is complete, and all items mentioned in this release are in current production.

New SUPERPANEL™ Broadband UHF TV Antenna

Chandler, Indiana USA – April 3, 2018 – ERI and iTECH are introducing their new SUPERPANEL broadband UHF panel antenna at the upcoming NABSHOW in Las Vegas. The i230ECx is a compact broadband side mounted UHF television antenna suitable for main and auxiliary applications. The antenna is configured in a cylindrical radome, that is very lightweight and low wind load. The base configuration is an 8-bay module that includes two inputs. The antenna can be supplied with an integrated hybrid power divider and phasing loop for fixed horizontal, elliptical or circular polarization or the system can be configured with a dual feed system that will allow for variable polarization ratios, that can be set for the entire array or for each individual channel feeding the system. This broadband antenna is suitable for single channel systems or for the combined operation of more than one television station in a single antenna. The 8-bay module is rated for 20 kW average power, 10 kW per input. There are standard system configurations for 8, 16 and 24 bays with array power handling capability up to 60 kW average power. The 16 and 24 bay configurations include the required power divider and feed harness.

The antenna is available with a wide cardioid azimuth pattern, Model i230ECW, or a narrow cardioid azimuth pattern, Model i230ECN. Both models are housed in a compact 22-inch (550 mm) cylindrical unpressurized fiberglass radome.

Standard antenna systems include 15-inch (381 mm) standoff brackets for mounting on poles or tower legs from 1.5-inches (35 mm) to 7.5-inches (191 mm) OD.  Standoff support pipes, face mount brackets, and mounts for larger diameter poles are available from ERI as optional items.
