ERI Introduces New UHF Television Bandpass Filters Rated for 1500 and 5000 Watts

Chandler, Indiana – March 29, 2023 – At the  2023 NAB Show Centennial in Las Vegas, ERI will introduce a new UHF Television Bandpass Filter with improved insertion loss and a unique forced air cooling system. The UF1500B is rated for 1.5 kW average power at the filter output and is convection cooled. The Model UF5000B adds forced air cooling, increasing the power handling capability to 5.0 kW. The unique targeted forced air-cooling system employed utilizes distributed finned heat sinks with individual cooling fans to target those locations that generate the most heat, based on laboratory testing. The system provides better heat removal using lower volumes of targeted airflow and has the benefits of less ambient noise and lower power consumption than traditional forced air-cooling methods.

The filters have lightweight Aluminum construction and copper resonators, and no finger stock is used. Instead, a mechanical clamping and copper collar firmly hold the resonator at its proper setting. The filter is temperature compensated using an Invar stabilized copper bellows, which is part of the resonator assembly. Multiple cross-couplings are provided to increase the rejection of transmitter out-of-band emissions. Six and eight-pole designs are available for 8-VSB and COFDM applications and are listed below. Input and output connections are unflanged: 1-5/8, 3-1/8, or 4-1/16-inch.

ERI Introduces New Motorized Coaxial Switches and Switch Controller

Chandler, Indiana – March 6, 2023 – Electronics Research will show new motorized coaxial RF switches designed for VHF and UHF applications. ERI will also offer a new motorized switch controller. The four models include the 1-5/8-inch Model CS203C switch, the Model CS350C for 3-1/8-inch requirements, the 4-1/16-inch Model CS400C, and the Model CS600C for 6-1/8-inch applications. These coaxial switches are broadband and suitable for applications from 500 kHz to 608 MHz and do not need to be tuned to a specific channel. The coaxial port configuration is a coplanar design that minimizes the elbows required in most installation configurations. The control interface and interlock connections are made with CAT5 or CAT6 cables and RJ45 connectors.

In addition, ERI also has updated the CS250C, CS350C, CS450C, and CS650C VHF (DC to 274 MHz) coaxial switches and the Model CS252C, CS352, and CS452 UHF (any single 6, 7, or 8 MHz TV channel from 470 to 698 MHz) coaxial switches with new drive motor assemblies and control circuitry.

The new EC130 motorized switch controller is designed to control one or two motorized switches and includes an SNMP interface. Adding an optional ERI Model VDM303 RF Power Detector, the EC130 will detect the presence of RF applied to the switch and prevent accidental switch activation while under power. The control interface and interlock connections are made with CAT5 or CAT6 cables with RJ45 connectors.

New High Band VHF Hybrid Couplers/Power Dividers From ERI

Chandler, Indiana – April 20, 2022 – Electronics Research, Inc. has three new hybrid couplers for high-band VHF television applications. ERI’s HY0245, HY246, and HY247 high band VHF hybrid couplers are plate-coupled quadrature designs that provide 3.0-dB, 3.98-dB, and 4.77-dB coupling levels, respectively. The hybrids are broadband from 174 to 240 MHz. The hybrid is most often used as a power combiner and also can be used as a power divider. All standard models are “cross-over” designs with the inputs, when used as a combiner, are on one side of the hybrid and the load port and combined output are on the opposite side. The input port opposite the combined output lags the other input by 90 degrees. The hybrid is available with any combination of 1-5/8-inch, 3-1/8-inch, 4-1/16-inch, and 6-1/8-inch flanged fixed male ports (order flange hardware separately). They are lightweight aluminum and compact with only 15.80-inches (401-mm) flange to flange spacing. Power handling is dependent on flange selection.

ERI will be exhibiting at NABSHOW 2022 at the Las Vegas Convention Center from April 24 to 27 in the West Hall, Booth Number W6505.

ERI Introduces New 3 dB FM Hybrid Couplers/Power Dividers

Chandler, Indiana – April 18, 2022 – Electronics Research, Inc. will introduce two improved 3 dB FM Hybrid models at NABSHOW2022. The HY0241 and HY0244 are now available with a broader array of port sizes, have improved power handling, and minimal variation in coupling ratio across the FM band.

The HY0241Series 3.0 dB FM Hybrid Splitter/Combiners includes models that handle up to 120 kW at the combined output (2 x 60 kW). They can be supplied with any combination of port connections from 1-5/8-inch inch to 6-1/8-inch. They are most often used in ERI’s constant impedance FM channel combining systems and as a power combiner to combiner multiple FM transmitter cabinets for increased transmitter power.

The HY0244 is a 90-degree 3-dB Hybrid Coupler with higher power handling capability. They are available with any combination of port sizes from 3-1/8-inch to 9-3/16-inch. The HY0244 is most commonly used as the output hybrid for a constant impedance FM module in large multi-channel combiner systems. Power handling is dependent on flange selection. Models are available to handle up to 300 kW at the combined output.

For both models, the standard configuration is a “cross-over” design. The input port opposite the combined output lags the other input by 90 degrees, “non-cross-over” versions are also available. They are constructed of lightweight aluminum and can be designed with coupling ratios other than 3.0 dB. Power handling is dependent on flange selection.

New Precision Coaxial Directional Couplers from ERI

Chandler, Indiana – April 15, 2022 – Electronics Research, Inc. has added a new family of precision directional couplers to its product line. The coaxial directional couplers are available for 1-5/8-inch, 3-1/8-inch, 4-1/16-inch, and 6-1/8-inch coaxial transmission lines with one, two, three, or four sampling ports. The standard sampling port connections are Type N or SMA. The line sections are constructed to securely position and hold the inner conductor to ensure the coupler remains stable and calibrated through shipment and installation. These directional couplers are constructed with rugged aluminum outer conductors and are very compact, allowing them to be mounted in congested locations. The directional couplers have an operating frequency range from 54 MHz to 800 MHz and can be set for coupling levels from -30 dB to -70 dB with directivity of 30 dB or better. ERI also manufactures adjustable coaxial directional couplers and produces waveguide directional couplers for all line sizes used for terrestrial broadcast applications.
