ERI Provides Turn-key Solution for Oklahoma City Broadcast Facility

Electronics Research, Inc. brought to bare the full depth and breadth of its design and manufacturing capabilities in providing a complete turn-key solution in Oklahoma City. The project included a 1500 foot tower, a TRASAR® high power UHF television antenna, a COGWHEEL™ integrated 1180 Series Broadband FM panel antenna and support spine, a run of MACXLine® rigid coaxial transmission line with bellows, and a host of installation, field, and engineering services; All provided by ERI!

The 1500 foot ERI tower culminates in a candelabra structure. The TRASAR® and COGWHEEL™ antennas tower above the Oklahoma landscape atop two of the three available candelabra arms.

The 55.4 foot long, 7400 lb TRASAR® high power UHF antenna with a diameter of 14.4 inches features an elevation gain of 27, an omnidirectional azimuth pattern, and 1.25 degrees of electrical beam tilt.

The 12-bay COGWHEEL™ Broadband FM Antenna functions as a master antenna for 10 FM stations with analog and IBOC space combining. This uniquely ERI integrated antenna and support spine provides omnidirectional coverage with analog to digital pattern symmetry of better than 1dB, for all frequencies planned for the system. The 1180 Series broadband FM antenna elements utilized in the array allow for a power capacity of 220 kW analog and 22 kW digital. The antennas are fed with ERI MACXLine® rigid coaxial transmission line which features a unique bellows section to compensate for differential thermal expansion.

In the transmitter facility, at the base of the tower, ERI provided an FM constant impedance combining system. The combiner system included analog and FM-IBOC combining, group delay compensation, and an analog and digital patch panel power divider system to feed the upper and lower halves of the antenna.

In addition to the products that make this complete RF and structural solution, Electronics Research, Inc. provided the installation, project management, and commissioning set up and final system test measurement services.

From the transmitter output to the beacon, ERI brings together the engineering (both electrical and mechanical), design, fabrication, project management, logistics, installation, and field service professionals necessary to complete even the most challenging of broadcast systems. Only ERI offers this full range of products and services.
